Long Span Racking

Direct access to every pallet – The most versatile storage system for warehouses and distribution centers.

Common sizes ship from Norcross, GA
OVERVIEW

Flexible storage that grows with your business

Selective pallet racking is the most widely used storage system in North Americanwarehouses. Each pallet sits on its own pair of beams, so forklifts can reach anyload without moving another – ideal for operations with many SKUs, frequent inventory changes or mixed pallet sizes.

Beams adjust on the upright in small increments, so you can re-space levels asyour products change. When you need more capacity, add bays to the end of arowusing the same frames and beams.

NexRack supplies the frames, beams, decking and safety accessories – and our
team can help with layout design, permit documents and installation.

Things to consider
Selective racking uses more aisle space than high-density systems. If you store many pallets of the same SKU, double-deep or drive-in racking may fit more in the same footprint. Talk to us about your options →

BUYING GUIDE

How to size your pallet rack

Six quick steps. Not sure about a number? Send us what you have and we’ll work it out with you.

01

Frame height

Start from your clear height (ceiling or sprinkler heads, whichever is lower). Subtract about 18" of sprinkler clearance and the height of your tallest load. The result is the highest your top beam can go.

Example: 22' clear − 1.5' − 4.5' load = 16' max top beam → a 16' frame works.
02

Frame depth

Take your pallet depth and subtract 6". That leaves a 3" overhang at the front and back, so the pallet rests securely on both beams.

Most common: 48" pallet → 42" frame.
03

Beam length

Leave at least 3" between each pallet and the upright, and 6" between pallets. Shorter beams carry more weight.

96" (8') = 2 standard pallets · 144" (12') = 3 pallets, for lighter loads.
04

Beam levels

Level spacing = load height + 4"–6" clearance + the beam's own face height. Beam capacity depends on its length and face height — we'll match beams to your pallet weight.

Tip: beams adjust on the upright, so you can re-space levels later.
05

Wire decking

Deck depth matches your frame depth. Deck width and count depend on beam length:

Beam Decks per level
96" (8') 2 × 46" wide
108" (9') 2 × 52" wide
120" (10') 2 × 58" wide
144" (12') 3 × 46" wide
06

Starter & add-on bays

Every row begins with a starter bay (2 frames + beams). Each add-on bay (1 frame + beams) shares a frame with the bay next to it.

Safety basics: 4 anchors per frame · 2 drop pins per beam · column guards on frames facing forklift traffic.

FAQ

Common questions

How do I choose the right frame depth?

Most US. wareheuses use 48″ deep pallels an 4″ deep frames, whichi lesves a 3 over hang al the frent and back. I your pallets area different sizs, tallus and welrecommend a depth

Rack height depends on your warehouse’s clear ceiling height, maximum forklift reach, and pallet load dimensions. As a general safety rule, ensure a minimum of 18 to 24 inches of clearance between the top of your pallet load and the lowest ceiling obstruction or fire sprinkler heads to meet local building codes. Contact our team with your facility dimensions, and we’ll calculate the optimal height for your space.

Yes. Our selective pallet racking features the standard Teardrop pattern, which is the most widely used connection style in North America. This design allows our upright frames and step beams to seamlessly integrate with most standard teardrop racking systems. If you have non-standard, structural, or proprietary racking, share your specifications or photos with us, and our engineering team will verify compatibility.
